I’m sure you wonder what your donation to Surf Life Saving actually does? Well, allow us to explain just what your generous donation means for us in terms of saving lives all over Australia.
With over 36,000km of coastline attracting about 100 million beach visitations every year, our volunteer Surf Lifesavers are always kept busy. We have over 42,000 volunteers from 311 different surf clubs across Australia and with the help of your generous donations, they make sure that Australia has some of the safest beaches in the world.
Donations are distributed to Surf Life Saving State entities for allocation to priority needs and include areas of:
- Rescue Gear and Equipment
- Volunteer Lifesaver Training
- Community Education Programs
-Support Services including communications networks, aerial patrols and powered watercraf
No matter what area your donation goes towards, you can be sure that it will make a vital contribution to saving lives.
Prevention is better than cure and the best way to save lives at the beach is by teaching people how to stay out of danger. We run campaigns on how to spot rips and what to do if you are caught in one (swim parallel to the shore).
Our Beach to Bush program has been running since 1994 to spread our beach safety message to those who don’t live near the coast – around 50% of our rescues involve people who live more than 50km from the shore. Your donation helps us educate children and save lives.
Plus, we are looking at and trialing technologies to help our lifesavers do what they do best. Our Beachsafe App is a great example of how technology that we have developed and now provide for free to the public, can help save lives.
