One of Queensland’s most dedicated surf lifesavers has joined the esteemed ranks of the Surf Life Saving Foundation’s (SLSF) Board.
Darrin Bragg has been heavily involved with the surf lifesaving movement since he joined as a nipper more than 42 years ago.
Having spent most of his life in North Queensland, the respected Townsville based accountant has been a member of the Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club for more than 20 years. He is now their President.
Prior to that, Mr Bragg had held positions as Treasurer and Club Captain with both the Mackay and Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Clubs.
Head of Foundation, Melanie Wilson, said that Mr Bragg’s status as a Life Member of the North Barrier Surf Life Saving Branch showcases his commitment to the overall movement.
“To become a Life Member of a surf lifesaving club or branch, members need to have displayed distinguished or special services over a period of time,” Wilson said.
“For Darrin, these distinguished and special services include serving as a relentless volunteer at all levels of the surf lifesaving movement.”
Having also previously served as a Board Member for Surf Life Saving Queensland, Mr Bragg brings an extraordinary passion and level of experience to the Foundation.
Ms Wilson said SLSF was looking forward to the depth of frontline knowledge that Mr Bragg would bring with him.
“He’s going to really raise the bar on how deeply the Foundation understands the everyday challenges of our volunteer surf lifesavers. He’ll also enhance our understanding of what the movement means to communities,” Ms Wilson said.
“Darrin will be an invaluable resource to our team,” she said.
