Following the early death of Cecilia’s brother Neil, their mother Eileen donated his board to Maroochydore SLSC, where he had been a member. In more recent years Cecilia searched for the board without success, so she was delighted and overwhelmed
when Brett Lucas, Supporter Relationships Manager at Surf Life Saving Foundation, finally managed to track it down at Surf Life Saving Queensland Headquarters.
NEIL WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF MAROOCHYDORE SURF
LIFE SAVING CLUB IN THE 1950’S AND 1960’S. HE LOVED HIS FAMILY, THE SEA AND HELPING PEOPLE. HE WAS A MARVELLOUS BROTHER AND MENTOR TO SO MANY.
Neil spent many hours on Maroochydore beach volunteering as a surf lifesaver and the wooden board was his pride and joy. “Neil’s board was hanging in pride of place at the headquarters. I got the shock of my life. It was so shiny and in good condition. To read ‘Neil James McShane’ on his board, and to know that his passing had not been in vain, that he will be remembered by the surf lifesaving community, was overwhelming and means so much to me.”
In recognition of Neil’s commitment to lifesaving and to honour his memory, Cecelia decided to leave a legacy gift in her Will to Surf Life Saving. “His legacy will live on through today’s surf lifesavers. I encourage other people to help ongoing generations, to keep them safe on the beach and in the surf. You can make a difference to Surf Life Saving by leaving a gift in your Will, so that every generation will be protected by volunteer lifesavers.”
Neil gave many hours to surf lifesaving. We honour his memory and all those who have volunteered their time to protect beachgoers over the generations.
When you decide to make a bequest in your Will, you are giving one of the greatest gifts that will continue to help generations to come. And when you select Surf Life Saving as a beneficiary of your bequest, this one act of generosity genuinely saves lives. By helping to secure the future of Surf Life Saving, your gift will mean the beautiful beaches of Australia will always be watched over by skilled hands, providing protection for beach-goers.
Surf Life Saving has a long history of its volunteer lifesavers teaching new generations
of Australian kids to be safe at the beach. Surf Life Saving exists to keep your friends and family safe when they’re at the beach. And your bequest can ensure your children, your grandchildren, or even your great grandchildren can enjoy our beaches, in safety.
