Allan was only 10 when he first faced the reality that life is short. Having just moved to Surfers Paradise from St George, he was surfing his new local beach when he suddenly felt the current pull him under. Allan was saved by a young Surf Lifesavers, and he will leave a bequest so more lives can be saved.
During a visit to Broadbeach, QLD, Verena recalls the first time she saw Surf Life Saving and a Surf Carnival in progress. “I was watching the Surf Carnival and I was very impressed. Especially with what the children were doing. It was at this time that I thought if I ever come to live here in Australia I would do something for Surf Life Saving.”
